4 reasons why posting your public content on Facebook is a bad idea

Maybe you’re happy that a only small group of friends sees your cat pictures or short comments. But your public content deserves to be seen by a wider audience, right? Some things you want the world to see.

When you want to share with the world, your articles, reflections, photos, and links should all be easily available to anyone who wants to see them.

That goes double for devotional thoughts, Bible meditations, and gospel articles.

Here are some reasons why it’s not advisable to post your public content to Facebook, along with suggestions about what to do.Read More

Let us pray for Christian authors, writers, and poets

Have you ever prayed for a Christian writer busy in his task?

Have you ever prayed for a Christian writer busy in his task?

pray-writersA large religious publisher apparently makes a monthly call for prayer for its authors. Their practice reminds us that many in the brotherhood are writing books, Sunday school curriculum, articles, poems, and posts. Wouldn’t it be a grand thing to include them in our regular prayers?

Perhaps you’d like to include such a supplication to the Lord in a prayer with your brethren as well in private.

We’re at the FHU Lectureship

If you’ve not visited the displays at the FHU Lectureship, be sure and visit our stand. Barbara Oliver is there behind the table, with Mike Brooks, who also has up a display of his work in Nepal and Bangladesh.

We’ve got all the Forthright books, plus some!

The display area is in the gym next to Loyd Auditorium.

Which of the 13 choices would you highlight as essential?

Author of the "Choose!" book answers two questions for a ladies day where the book will be distributed.

choosefrontcoverpA sister in Christ bought 100 copies of the Choose book for a ladies day. In order to present the book to the participants, she asked author J. Randal Matheny a couple of questions about the book.

Q: Often we see books that address a problem this way: “If you’re feeling “______,” then read “________,” as a tool to make you feel or do better somehow. You address a different way to approach this area. What inspired you to write about choices, and specifically 13 of them?Read More

We’re hosting a FB group for Christian authors and readers

Come join the Facebook group for authors and readers.

Come join the Facebook group for authors and readers.

On Facebook, Forthright Press has opened a group for authors in churches of Christ. It’s open to everyone who’s interested in books in print published for the brotherhood. Authors come from many publishers, and many of them are self-published. All are welcome!

Recent discussions include citation complicated by the Internet, online resources for research, and new books in preparation by members of the group.

Here’s the group description:

Highlighting the work of authors of *books in print,* in churches of Christ, who believe that the New Testament is the pattern for faith and practice. Not for progressives, non-institutional or instrumental positions. Please don’t post notice of events, invitations, or other content not related to writing or authors in churches of Christ.

The groups is designed to encourage authors through contact with each other and to bring authors and readers together.

Our 2014 recommendation for a daily Bible reading plan

This is the best plan we've found, and it isn't even ours.

This is the best plan we've found, and it isn't even ours.

notas-bibliaIn years past, we’ve published a yearly schedule of Bible readings in PDF format.

This year, we found a plan that we’ve been following for several weeks and it has been the best we’ve seen so far.

So we recommend it to you. The link goes to a TFR post where we mentioned it some time back.

Here’s a picture and a description of our experience after 17 days.

There are many good plans out there. What’s important is to find one that works for you and inspires you to read all of God’s word regularly.

And don’t forget that Forthright Press has a number of books to help when you turn from your reading to some serious study.
