Osama Bin Laden | Forthright: Guest Writers

Pretty much every preacher, writer, blogger, and journalist we know has weighed in on the reported death of Osama bin Laden.

I’ve seen plenty of balanced Christian remarks. I’ve read some hateful talk — yes, even from professing Christians. The world has weighed in.

So what’s the real bottom line?

What to do for Mother’s Day | The Fellowship Room

As Mother’s Day approaches, we think of presents, flowers, and our good attitudes, like gratitude, to make the day a happy one for our mothers. And so we should.

Our plans for Mother’s Day ought to include meeting with the Christian family. We could do no better for mom than being with God’s church.

Jesus’ mother said, “Whatever he tells you, do it” (John 2:5 NET), for she knew that obedience to Jesus would bring benefit to all.

Here’s a little article that says don’t quit your regular Christian godliness for a special day. Even your mom will be glad for it.

Rainy Days and Mondays | Forthright: Reality Check

Not only does God know the future, he controls it! It is human for us to forget how little we control. We arrogantly make plans for the future, predicting achievements and activities as if we have any control over what will take place.

Instead of predicting the future, we might as well be catching the rain in our hats!

Here’s a better idea. Make sure that you are in a right relationship with God ( Luke 13:1-5). Then, you won’t need the weather forecast because you will be living with the weather enforcer!

The Righteous Are Barely Saved | Forthright Magazine

In one of the many tornadoes that lashed the American south last Wednesday, an elderly sister in Christ hid under her kitchen table. After the twister had passed, nothing was left of her house, except the table and the sister underneath it, unharmed.

In another town, another sister in Christ was saved only because she clung to bathroom fixtures as the tornado ripped the shoes off her feet.

In Christ the world sometimes sweeps away around us and would whisk us away with it, if we did not hide in the shadow of God’s wing and cling to the Rock that is higher and firmer than we.

We understand Peter’s paraphrase of Proverbs:

21% of Atheists Believe in God! | TFR

It is beyond amazement that 21% of the atheists asked believe in God! Just think about that for a moment: since 21% of the atheists who answered the survey question believe in God, are they now….well, what would they be?

It does go to point out that confusion is the operative word in much of society.

Click the link above for the whole post. Makes me wonder if saying one is an atheist is as much a reaction against organized religion as anything.

End your divisions | TFR

Today’s Bible reading schedule starts 1 Corinthians 1. If you don’t have a habit of reading the Bible every day, why not start this one with us, since we’re starting a new book today.

The Portuguese devotional used 1 Cor. 1:10 for the text today. I like the NET Bible on this verse: “I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to agree together, to end your divisions, and to be united by the same mind and purpose.”

“End your divisions.” Doesn’t get much clearer than that, does it? Yet how many in the religious world cling to the traditions and doctrines of men and perpetuate disunity?

Jesus’s Plainness | TFR

One thing about our Lord’s teaching is how plain it is. While many religious teachers are quite confused on what He said, the common folk during Jesus’ day had no difficulty understanding Him. In fact, it was His plainness of speech that garnered much attention. The attention was not always popular. On one such occasion he said to His the many that gathered around Him that is one requirement of God that all must meet. That requirement is repentance (Luke 13:3-5). This one requirement then moves a person in the right direction to hear what the Lord said on others matters. The Lord’s plainness cannot be mistaken – except by those who have no interest in repenting.

Homosexual history in public school? – JAM | TFR

Calfornigaytion”? That was the title of the Ron Hart piece in our local (Winchester, TN) paper Friday, April 29. He is a regular syndicated feature in the Herald Chronicle. This article was centered on the law proceeding through the CA legislature that would make it mandatory for public schools to teach gay, lesbian and transgender history as part of social studies. Very likely it would be taught by highlighting homosexual people of the past who have made contributions to society. This is simply another step towards conditioning culture for wide-spread acceptance of this biblically condemned perversion and to make anyone opposed to it appear malicious, condemning, biased and unjust. Never before has the need for Christian schools been greater!

Another great argument for homeschooling as well. Click link above for complete article.
