I roll my eyes when …

(Trying out plinky for the first time …)

Corny jokes make my eyes roll, accompanied by a smile.

Light stupidity makes my eyes roll, sans smile.

Heavy stupidity makes me close my eyes.

John Henson joins Forthright Magazine as Christian Evidences columnist

Columnist John Henson

Forthright Magazine welcomes John Henson as its a new columnist, writing on Christian Evidences.

John serves as a preacher with the church in Grand Blanc, Mich.

John’s first article was titled, “Is Atheism Stronger?” and surveyed Dr. Anthony Flew’s move away from atheism.

He has degrees from Tennessee Bible College in Bible and Philosophy.

He and his wife Judy, says John, have three wonderful Christian children, Christina, Catherine and Sheridan, all above 30. Christy is the mother of a 8-year-old grandson Alexander, and Sheridan will be getting married to a wonderful Christian woman in September.

They have worked with churches in Tennessee and Michigan. Both are life-long members of the church. John was baptized in 1963 and began preaching five years later on an appointment basis.

He named some of his favorite writers: Thomas B. Warren (especially the Warren-Flew and Warren-Matson debates), Roy C. Deaver, Jody Apple (Theistic Evolution), Thomas F. Eaves (my favorite professor and the toughest one), James D. Bales (one of the great debaters, especially his debate on the Existence of God with Teller. I wore out three highlighters and my paperback is worn out), J. Randal Matheny, David Roper and Eddie Cloer.

“I enjoy golf, probably too much, and going to lunch on Sundays with my brothers and sisters here,” John said.

Read more about John in his bio on the “About Us” page of the magazine.

The Hub gets new look, new feature

Ron Thomas of Sullivan, Ill., is picking out links that appear in Christian Hub and highlighting them with a few remarks in his Pointers. Ron is a careful thinker and serious student of the Word. You can count on him sharing articles and posts to give your faith a real boost and provoke lots of thought about our service to and relationship with the Lord.

We’ve asked your opinion about whether to include just the post titles or some text in the sections. Please help us on this by what you find most helpful.

The previous theme was a dark one, so to lighten up and also to give us some features that were missing in the old one, we’ve chosen a new theme and have personalized it as much as our situation allows. Tell us if you like it.

New sites are being added almost daily. With the automatic updating, you can pop in several times a day and find something new. So visit often, “refresh” the page if you keep it open, and enjoy all that Christian Hub has to offer.

We’ve used a take-off on LOTR to describe the site: “The site to find them all.” A bit pretentious perhaps, but you get the idea.

Friends have already given Christian Hub a nickname — the Hub. I was abbreviating it as CH, but that didn’t catch on. I like the alternative, it gives it character.

FPress launches website hub of articles, news and studies

Forthright Press launched today the Christian Hub website, a portal of titles and links updated automatically. Besides its major websites, the Hub includes dozens of blogs and sites by saints and churches.

Designed so that people can consult the latest posts, the Hub can be selected as the home page of one’s browser, so that the site will load when a browser is opened.

Known as a content aggregator, the Hub allows one to see at a glance what new materials have been added to websites.

The websites have been chosen with care, among faithful saints and writers who engage their readers. Still, readers are urged to compare all materials with the Bible’s teaching.

To access the new website, click here on Christian Hub.

John Henson: Secular humanism is defined as making mean the measure

In a recent movie about Nelson Mandela and the emergence of South Africa from apartheid, the character playing the first black president quotes a poem by William Earnest Henley, "I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul."

The quote echoes the philosophy of secular humanism, defined simply as, "making man the measure." Humanism means precisely what Henley said in his poem. Man is the master. Man is the captain.

Winged Victory, says Barry Newton, such as he thought he’d never see

By Barry Newton (June 30, 2010)

I never thought I would live to see winged victory in a prestigious scientific journal. But there it was in full glossy color staring out at me from the pages of Scientific American.

The artist’s rendition of modern waterfowl milling about in the foreground as duck-billed dinosaurs grazed in the background was shockingly stark, not as some joke against creationists, but as a serious affirmation of the discovery that modern birds cohabitated alongside of dinosaurs. Imagine that!

Richard recalls 9/11 and makes application to God’s sovereignty

God Sees What We Can’t

by Richard Mansel, managing editor

airliner4.jpgOn September 11, 2001, the sky was clear and blue. It was one of the most beautiful days in recent memory.

Pilots took off at the behest of air traffic controllers. Military jets prepared and lifted off for training missions. All was normal and people’s spirits lifted high on the breeze.

People watching news channels heard of a small plane crashing into the North tower of the World Trade Center at 8:45 A.M. People were shocked at the terrible accident.
